Mission Impossible: Indiana

At the end of June, Reese and I attempted to head back to Indiana to celebrate Annie and Dan's wedding and the 4th of July. We headed to the airport after a day at work and preschool for a 6:30pm flight to Midway but ended up just spending six hours at the airport and not going anywhere. The runway lights went out at Midway so we got on the plane and sat there then had to get off the plane and wait for them to cancel our flight. Reese had a little meltdown after we had to get off the plane but I knew everyone who were on our flight was feeling the same way and given the time, it was what it was. I waited for luggage and called Matt, who thankfully came to get us and take us home. Between my dad and I calling Southwest, we found out that the only thing we could do was go to the airport in the morning with our fingers crossed. I let Reese sleep in and thankfully Lani was able to take us back to the airport, where the woman at ticketing told me "I should have gotten there earlier." To which I replied "But I am here now, and I will go anywhere as long as we get to Chicago by tomorrow afternoon (for the Anderson's wedding party)." She was able to put us on stand-by for a flight that went through Minneapolis and we rushed to the gate. As we stood there waiting to see what would happen, I heard my name over the loud-speaker to go to another gate. A flight to Chicago had one seat available and they wanted to give it to me, but I had Reese. The woman told me to wait and she became my angel by getting Reese and I boarding passes to the Minneapolis flight. And we were off... When we made it to Chicago, we couldn't find our luggage but we decided to head back to my Dad's house and figure out luggage later. My dad ended up driving back to the airport that night, while a storm hit and I juggled two sleeping and scared little girls. It was not a smooth start to our trip but we were there and Reese was so happy to see my Dad and Sophia!

Good Morning our first day full day in Indiana!

The sunhat that I made for Sophia!

Ready to go to Annie and Dan's Wedding Celebration

Sunday we drove out to the Indiana Dunes where my Mom and Marc were camping in their new trailer.  We walked down to the beach where the girls swam and played in the sand.  We made Sophia walk most of the way, which meant it took us forever but Sophia got some exercise :)
A storm was coming in so we quickly walked back to the camp site and made it back just in time.  We changed and ate dinner then headed back to my Dad's house.  It was wonderful to be out in the green trees and be able to be outside.

After dinner, my dad and I took an after-dinner walk around the neighborhood, Bella and all.

Monday night Annie and Dan came into town to spend some quality time with us.  We had dinner at Kathy's house and then Reese and Uncle Kent headed over to the playground across the street.  She has Ken wrapped around her little finger and they had a great time playing, despite the crazy heat.

Good morning, Sophia!

Playing outside for a little bit because there was a heat wave.

Naptimes have been interesting because Sophia wants to be held the entire time and Reese doesn't want to have to stay in her bed if Sophia doesn't have to.  So, Sophia has slept in my arms in the recliner while Reese naps on her Dora couch right next to us.  I have been able to enjoy the quite and read a book, which has been really nice.

We headed to stay the night at my Mom's on the 3rd and were able to attend the Twilight Parade in Highland.  It was very hot but we had a good time.

Abe met us there and Reese loved spending time with Daddy Abe.

The 4th of July, Marc made biscuits and gravy so the day started out well.  Then we took Reese to see Brave at the movies and came home to nap.  Next, it was sprinkler time and backyard baseball.  I see sports in Reese's future.

Highland fireworks with Mom, Marc, Reese, Sophia, Daddy Abe and his cousin (I can't remember his name).  The glow bracelets I bought were a hit while we waited for them to start.

The next day we played at my dad's house and watched as a rain storm came through.

Silly Sophie!

Reese dusting the "Jungle" :)

Family came into town on our last night so we went over to China Koon, where Reese knew exactly what she wanted, a pink smoothie.  She even ordered it herself and was very proud.  It was adorable!

Our last walk in Indiana was on the bike trail by my Dad's house.  It ended in Reese having an accident but it was hot and Bella wasn't going to make it so I think it was the universe telling us to go home.

It was very hard leaving everyone we love, especially Sophia.  The girls played so nicely together and I know Reese loved having her little sister around.  Though it started out a little rough, I know both Reese and I needed this week away from home and surrounded by people we love.
