Sick

I hate nothing more in the world than when Reese is sick.

Headless Horseman Take 2

Reese said her belly hurt when we got into line so we went back and forth about staying or going and we chose to stay.  We went straight to the bathrooms to see if we could get her belly straightened out and as we waited in line, I heard "Lindsey!?"  One of my coworkers and her kids where there too.  It was fun to just run into someone I know!  Reese wanted to see the marionette show again so we went straight there and Reese was able to sit in the front and see everything.  She was so excited.

Then we went to ride on the Headless Horseman Hayride!  We both were very excited!
'
And a little nervous.  Reese moved onto my lap and parts were a little scary.  I liked that it was still a little light out when we went.  The horseman comes right up to the trailer and I wish I could have taken pictures while we were on it because it was awesome seeing him on horseback with the wind blowing his cape stopped at the entrance to the covered bridge because the legend says he cannot cross the church bridge.  We were both so excited about it afterwards that we said we have to come back again!

We got home and went to bed but at midnight Reese's hurt belly was back and she spend the rest of the night in my bed getting up to throw-up about every hour.  It was not enjoyable but she slept in today and is feeling better right now.  No fever so I'm hoping it is only something she ate getting out of her system.

The List

Reese and I made this list the first week we moved here of the things we wanted to do (okay I wanted to do).  It has stared at us from the fridge ever since and as of yesterday we have checked everything off.  Reese has not been with me to the park in Tipton but I have started having my lunch breaks there and I know I will take her there soon.

We are coming up on being here for five months, which have flown by.  I cannot believe we left AZ that long ago.  We both went through a bit of a rough patch but now we are settling and though we are still dealing with being in a new place, we are handling it better. It feels pretty great and though it is starting to get cold, and I am not ready for that, I am looking forward to the holidays!

Children's Museum

On Saturday, Reese and I headed to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis to see the Mystery Machine.  Her life is complete!

We also enjoyed the 50th Anniversary of the Haunted House.  It was a time warp theme so we had fun going through the time machine, Reese didn't like only one room and her favorite was the witch's birthday party.

We then saw the Hollywood Haunted exhibit which made us sad that the Waznys were not here with us.

Then we tested out the new playscape where Reese climbed, dug in sand, played in water, and had a jam session with fun instruments.

We watched a constellation show in the planetarium too!

Then Reese checked out out a shipwreck, a pharaoh's tomb and the terracotta warriors.
Many things in this museum reminded me of Phoenix: a Chihuly installation, a Thorne room, the terracotta warriors.

I told Reese last week that the only pet we could have was sea monkeys.  Low and behold, the Museum Store had them so we have a new pet.  We have let the water set and will be hatching our new babies after naptime today!

Back to reality

After Tuesday when everything seemed to line up, I had Thursday... where my only staff member called in sick when I had to go read to the kindergartners of Tipton during which a child threw up.  Ugh.

This Halloween fun helped to make the day better!

Busy and Fateful Day

I woke up this morning earlier than normal but didn't get out of bed until my usual time so I was surprised when I was dropping Reese off at preschool five minutes early!  Then the sunrise was just gorgeous.  It reminded me of an Arizona sunset.  Cotton candy clouds!

I had started researching doctors for Reese yesterday and then last night she told me it hurt when she peed.  I, of course, became nervous when I heard her say "ow" this morning when she went.  When I called about a recommended doctor taking Reese'e insurance, of course they weren't taking anymore patients.  Then I called about plans and figuring out how it all worked and instead of the hour and a half wait to speak to a human like in Arizona, two rings and there was a human, a human who was kind and helpful, it was a miracle.  She explained everything and updated Reese's record.

I consulted Reese's second mother about taking her in to get her bottom checked out.  Then I made an appointment at the Kids Express, an urgent care for kids, where a coworker's wife works and recommended.

I had some comp time to I was able to leave a half hour early, pick up Reese, stop by the library to drop off and pick up some things.  Then it was off to dinner.

We pulled into the parking spot at Panda Express and right in front of the window was a poster that said "Kids Eat Free on Tuesdays."  Thanks for the reassurance that I am in the right place at the right time, God.  Reese thought it was amazing that we were able to have Panda Express and eat there.

The doctor check-up was super easy.  They checked her pee and no bugs so they think it is not an infection just some irritation.  The doctor was awesome and explained things very well.  My coworker's wife was so welcoming and helpful.  I also received two recommendations for doctors that are taking her healthcare.  It was really a great experience and I feel pretty good to be ahead of the game on health things.

Reese needed new tennis shoes and we were on that side of town so we hit Meijer before heading home.  New shoes for both of us, a new bath towel for Reese and a horse ride later and we were finally headed home.  It felt amazing that everything worked out today and it was nice to spend that extra time with Reese getting things done.  I have been missing Reese pretty badly during the workdays and I needed an evening and day like this.

Headless Horseman at Conner Prairie

Maria and I took Reese and Dominic to Conner Prairie for their Headless Horseman event on Sunday night.  I have been prepping Reese for weeks.  We bought a copy of the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow, have listened to an audiobook version of the story, read a picture book, watched the Disney version, and even watched the Legend of Smurfy Hollow.  Okay, I might have gone overboard but I like when we have a story to both be excited about and talk about.  I like having things like that to share with her.  I also wanted her to be prepared so in case it is scary she knows what is going to happen.

We watched a marionette show of the story, which Reese loved but Dom did not and had to leave halfway through.  We visited a monster museum and snacked on apple slider slushes and popcorn.

love these two!

The kids made monkeys fly with a catapult.

We met Holly Ween.

And played music.  This tent was awesome.  There was a hippie man who played really loud kid-friendly but not obnoxious music and had tons of instruments, purchased and handmade all over a tent.  It was the loudest thing I have every participated in but was so much fun!

The place was packed so the tickets we got for the headless horseman hayride were for 9:15pm and we didn't make it.  It was a school night and I had prepped Reese that we could come back if there were things she didn't get to do. So it was no big deal at all when we left.  It was a fun night with friends.  I think we may hit it up again this Sunday night and try to do the hayride this time.

Reese Quote

Reese told me that she was fighting with a girl in her class.  When I asked why they were fighting this was her response: "We are in a fight over who is the best dancer for Hey Soul Sister."

I think it may be time for us to watch West Side Story so she can really learn how to win a dance-off.

Pumpkin Patch at Smith Family Farms

We headed over to Maria's after work on Friday.  Reese was very excited to play with Dominic and even had her first lesson on riding a bike without training wheels from Anthony.

After the kids went to sleep Maria's sister, Adrienne and her boyfriend came over and played an inappropriate card game, which was really fun.

The next morning we headed to the Smith Family Farm, where the kids played on the playground.  When Reese saw this, she said "Look, just like at Mimmie's!"

We went on a hayride.

Then we headed into the pumpkin patch to pick!

Love this one!

The Schultz family headed out because Myles was exhausted so Reese and I headed inside the barn to eat some lunch.  We walked around the farm a bit more then headed home.  It was exactly what going to the pumpkin patch should be.

Weekend Visitors

Aunt Annie and Aunt Kathy came down to visit last weekend!!  It was awesome to show they our new place and new town.  We went to lunch at a little place downtown then walked around to check out The Wild, a children's bookstore, and numerous antique stores around the square.  Aunt Kathy bought Reese a little black cat stuffed animal and I picked up a Halloween sticker book for her and some things to save for Christmas presents.

We had dinner at home then Reese had this fun candy that our visitors brought.  Then we had a Little Mermaid movie night.  It was really wonderful to have them stay with us!

October Catch-Up

Holy Fog, Batman!

Look where Reese and I are going with Maria, Anthony and Dominic!  I'm looking forward to it!

Thursday was the 20th anniversary of Reese's preschool so they had an open house with a face painter.  She looked adorable but it led to a massive meltdown when we got home but after the meltdown we were on a really good page so maybe it was worth it.

September Catch-Up

We are finally unpacked!  I feel so much better now that everything has its place.  I also found all of our Halloween decorations so we are feeling festive too!

Reese and I went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 at night.

Reese discovered that I cannot resist playing with the American Girl dolls.  I can be elbow deep in a sink of dishes and have to dry off when she gets them out.  I turn into a twelve year old again every time I see Molly.

My mom and Marc found some amazing furniture at a thrift store for Reese's room!  It finally feels like she has a real room and doesn't live with a college student any more.  I love it.
