Apple Pickin'

Garwood Orchards
LaPorte, Indiana

We used to go apple picking every September when I was younger and we brought back the tradition this year by taking Reese.  She rode in the front carrier and was happy the whole time - she is such a trooper.  The gala apples were the best by far so that is what we picked.  Then we walked over to their country store and bought apple cider, carmel puffs, pumpkin muffin mix and handmade donuts - that are to die for.  It was another beautiful day with a beautiful girl!
"Don't worry, Aunt Lindsey.  I've got it!"

I see apple crisp and maybe an apple pie in my future...

Baby Times

Reese attended her first story time at the library on Monday - Mother Goose on the Loose.  The woman who ran the program is the same woman who ran the story times when I was little so I was having flashbacks to my childhood.  She was the youngest one there and had a hard time with taking turns - she cried whenever it wasn't her turn.  But she did dance and sing when they played songs which was really cute.

She started crawling last week but it was awkward and she often reverted back to the inchworm scoot.  This week she has the hang of it and is getting faster by the minute.  She lifts her left arm up higher then necessary and it makes her look like a soldier.

She also has started pulling herself up on things. It is amazing to see her standing or kneeling there knowing that she did that on her own.  She isn't completely steady up there so it is also scary.
Reese and I spent the afternoon at Oak Ridge Prairie - a county park in town.  The only times I remember going there is for sledding down the big hill.  The weather is starting to cool off and I cannot wait to watch the leaves change there.  They have a bike path through the woods and a lake with geese.  I think I will take Reese in the front carrier sometime next week.  She dissected a leaf while we walked through the woods then we played at the park there.  It will be fun when she is walking and can run around the park - that time will be here before we know it.

Wonderful Weekend

I had a wonderful weekend in Chicago with my cousins! We started out with dinner at this great Costa Rican restaurant where we were able to sit outside and we drank wine named "Vampire" because vampires are in right now, ha! Saturday we started the day with pumpkin spice lattes - really the best way to start a day. Then we walked over to the Renegade Craft Fair. Wow, it was amazing! Every booth had something creative and I recognized people from blogs and etsy. It was nice to see the faces behind the creativity. I was waiting in line to get some lunch and heard my name, I turned around to see Zach! I worked with him in Phoenix until he went to graduate school in Illinois. It was a nice surprise to see him. We topped off the day with Regina Spektor at the Chicago Theatre. She is so delicate and her songs are so important to me. Sunday was apple cider at the farmers market in Wicker Park then bagels and coffee at this great shop, the craft fair again then the Harry Potter exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry.

I had been looking forward to this weekend for a while and I am sad that it is over but I want to make sure that I get up to the city as much as I can during this time. The time with my cousins along with the hustle and bustle of the city is very comforting and I miss it when I am away.

Camping

Reese had her first camping experience this weekend!  We headed with my mom over to Chain O' Lakes, which is near Fort Wayne.  Reese was such a trooper and loved being outside.  We went on a little hike with her in the front carrier and other than being eaten alive by mosquitos, it was great.  I think the mosquitos knew that I had not been around for them to nibble on for a couple years.  They bit me everywhere with a concentration behind my ears - so weird.  My mom took Reese to visit her mom on Sunday so I was able to spend the day napping, reading for school and then I took a hike by myself.  It was so nice to be outside surrounded by nature.  The green of the woods was so vivid and I spotted mushrooms, berries, and flowers.  We made smores and tin foil dinners.  My mom's boyfriend made these amazing onions for lunch - it was an onion with a glob of butter and a bullion cube on top wrapped in foil and then cooked.  It was heaven.  I haven't been camping in many years, I think I forgot how much I enjoy it.  I am really happy that was I around for Reese's first camping adventure.
