Crochet creations

Here was my crochet project started and completed this weekend.  We are ready for St. Patty's Day!

P.S. Sorry for the blurry picture.  I think I was just so excited to have it up.
P.S.S. And please don't look at our stockpiling of food above the cupboards.  I have a Costco membership which makes it look like we are ready for the Apocalypse.

New Big Yellow Ball!

Since ours popped, we have been waiting for them to get back in the stores and Saturday they were!
And this time it's pink!  Reese couldn't be more excited.  It was chilly this weekend so she has been tossing and kicking it around inside the house, much to my dismay.

New to me books

At the library book sale, I found this amazing set of 1956 reprints by the original publisher of the Oz books.  When I got home I realized that one was missing but I am still very happy because I got them for $3 each, which is a steal on Oz books.  They are SO pretty!

I can't get this image to turn, grrrr.

Tiegan's Birthday Party

Sorry for the blurry pictures but this birthday party was on the move.  Reese was able to attend Tiegan's birthday party (a girl from her class) at Sky Jump.  She had a great time and I don't think she stopped moving from the minute we got there.  There was lots of jumping and going down the blow-up slide.  There was also a big foam pit that she could jump into and then climb her way across.

After dance class in the morning (thanks to Amy, I was able to head to the Library book sale while the girls were at dancing), then a trip to Target and a failed nap attempt, Reese was ready to get to this birthday party.

I love this picture of Reese watching Tiegan open her presents.  Tiegan is the little one to the right of Reese facing her.

All of two of these kiddos are from Reese's class.  Starting at the left back row is Maggie, unknown boy, Alex, Tiegan, Ellie, Sookie (Leo's big sister), Leo and down front is Nicolette and Reese.  They had a great time at Tiegan's party!

Wonderbox 2

We happily received our next installment of our Wonderbox gift on Thursday night.  It is ocean themed so we started out by making an ocean in a bottle, with sand, shells and even a little coloring to make the water blue.

Then instead of playing Go Fish, Reese sorted the cards and counted the fish on each while I made dinner.

Reese made this jellyfish at school and I had to capture it because it couldn't be cuter.

Crochet creations

I have not been very good about taking photos of my crocheted creations lately.  I would like to blame it on the holidays and not wanting to spoil the surprise but really I just forget.  So I am going to try to get better at that.  Here is my latest.  A crocheted ipad sleeve with a mother goose as a thank you gift for Diane.  It took me way too long to finish.  I don't know why I thought that goose would be so much work.  I'm glad that I can move onto something else.  I think it will be hanging baskets but wait I want to make shamrock decorations for St. Patty's Day and a bonnet for baby Victoria.  I wish I had more crafting time...

Wonderbox - project #2

Last night was the perfect night for our second Wonderbox project and here is why:  When we were at the Grand Canyon this weekend, we saw a rainstick at one of the stores.  We also had really weird weather yesterday with rain/snow/slush/sleet/hail (and we had most of that during my drive to pick up Reese after school).  So after dinner last night, we pulled out the Wonderbox (sent from Aunt Kathy, Uncle Kent, Aunt Annie and Uncle Dan for Reese's birthday) and made the next project which was a rainstick!  It was so clever and Reese had a great time making it.  She was in charge of putting it in her room while I cleaned up the table and when I went to take a picture of it, I couldn't find it.  Reese was very excited to be able to use it "like an instrument in a parade!"

Though it was nice to have some extra sets of hands here last week, I found that I really missed reading to Reese.  I am happy to have that time back with her.  We also have been really good about being on the same page.  We haven't had many fits or attitude this this week.  She has been on green in class every day and she has been very loving, needing lots of hugs and say "i love you" at random times.  I know this will not last and that I may be cursing it by just writing it but I really love these times when it feel easy.  It makes me miss her a lot while I am at work.

President's Day

Reese and I both had the day off on Monday for President's Day so we planned Reese and Victoria's first trip to Sweet Tomato's with the Waznys.  Reese loved it and ate really well.  I eat like I have never eaten before when we go there.  It was really fun!

Then we came home and colored then played outside.  It was a pretty good day.

Grand Canyon Quotes

Me: Reese, you did a really good job today. Thank you for listening so well.
Reese: Thank you for not yelling at me.

Me: What did you think of the Grand Canyon?
Reese: It was as good as new!

Reese Quote

I want to watch Hocapontas.

with no idea that she had messed it up.

Visit from Mimmie and Marcer

On Monday night, my mom and Marc came to visit us. Reese was so excited for them to come.  Here she is seeing them in the airport for the first time.

We started off their visit with biscuits and gravy Tuesday morning then a hike at Piestewa Peak.

King of the Mountain!

Then we headed over to Urban Cookies to grab dogs from Short Leash and a couple cupcakes then had a picnic at Steele Indian School Park.

After naptime, we stopped at Hole in the Rock.

Then had dinner at Four Peaks.

Wednesday I headed to work while everyone else got ready then when the Museum opened, they came for a quick tour and lunch at Chico's Tacos.

Thursday was Valentine's Day so Reese went to school for her class party and I went to work, while my mom and Marc went to drive the Apache Trail.  We had dinner at home so that we could pack and get ready for our big adventure the next morning.

Friday we hit the road bound for the Grand Canyon.  We stopped to have breakfast and pie at Rock Springs Cafe.  It was delicious!

We decided to take Oak Creek Canyon so that we could see how beautiful it is along with Sedona.  Thankfully, a couple years ago Debbie and I took a day trip to Flagstaff and stopped to have a picnic down by the Creek so when Reese said out of no where that she had to go to the bathroom, I knew just where to stop.  We were able to play in the snow there which Reese was just ecstatic about.

We stopped to take photos and buy Native American wears at the top of the canyon.  Mimmie bought Reese a dream catcher to hang in her room.  Reese made her read the story about it about twenty times on the drive.  Now it hangs above her bed and makes me feel better about her dreams.

We made it! And it wasn't as cold as we anticipated!

Reese's first time at the Grand Canyon.

We stayed at Maswik Lodge and went over to Bright Angel Lodge for dinner.
I love imagining how it would have been with the Harvey Girls here.

This was the first time that Reese had ever stayed in a hotel.  With a four year old who didn't nap that day, we all decided it was best to go to bed when she did.  We had breakfast at the Maswik cafeteria in the morning then drove on Hermit's road along the Canyon to Hermit's Rest, stopping at most of the lookouts.

That hat didn't turn out too bad!  I realized that I didn't have a winter hat to wear when we went on this little adventure so I crocheted myself one.  I made it with a heavier weight yarn so then had to cinch it in.

Here Reese was over looking at the Canyon again so I let my mom and Marc go take a look and Reese walked the tight rope (or the stone ledge) and then was a trapeze artist (I would spin her around when there was a break in the ledge).

Just skipping back to the car... nothing new.

Hot chocolate at Hermit's Rest.

Before heading home, we stopped to see El Tovar, the original Fred Harvey hotel at the Grand Canyon.  Reese was hungry and tired so we weren't able to take as much time as I would have liked but I'm glad that I was able to see it.

Good Bye, Grand Canyon!  Thank you for being a wonderful break from the norm.  Reese and I hadn't left the valley since August so this was much needed.  We headed back to Phoenix Saturday afternoon then my mom and Marc packed up and flew out Sunday morning.

It was really nice to have the help and distraction after a pretty stressful January.  It was also fun to see Arizona again through Marc's new eyes.  He was really amazed by everything that we were able to show him which reminded me how I felt when I first moved here.  It is really easy to get into a routine and forget to stop and look at how beautiful my state is.

Nurse Amy

Today I had another reminder as to why I am not ready to leave Phoenix or Amy.  Reese was running around after dinner and caught her toe in the grate on the floor and got a big cut.  I freaked a little because I am not good with medical things and I felt like I wasn't sure if she would need a professional or not.  So I called Amy, who came right down with medical supplies and a sense of calm that made everything feel better.  She took a look at it and wrapped her toe up, then went on her way.  Because Reese was going to get in the tub when the accident occurred, we decided to have a sponge bath instead and to wash her hair in the sink.  It was a fun change from the norm and took away from Reese only thinking about her foot.  I am sure that I could suck it up a little more instead of relying on Amy when things get a little scary but the support of another adult with a second opinion just seconds away is something that is indescribably valuable to a single parent.

Also, her daughter sold me seven boxes of girl scout cookies today.  Doesn't get much better.

One Liners

We were able to do our first WonderBox project this week!

Friday, we went to the member's opening for Order, Chaos and the Space Between at the Museum.

This may just look like an envelope to you, but it contains Reese's new birth certificate with me listed as her mother!

Nicolette, from Reese's class, had her birthday party at Flip Dunk on Saturday.

I love this picture of Reese with Alex and Tiegan from her class at the party.

Quote:
Reese: "I want to go back to Flip Dump."
Me: "It is Flip Dunk, with a K."
Reese: "No, Dump with a P."

I have a cold.
