I dont think words can describe home much I love this kid. We had a great morning of singing Paul Simon songs - she has good taste in music - and organizing the mail. Reese helps to destroy the unneeded envelopes. She also took a solid nap already, which I cannot complain about. We have a pretty exciting Friday ahead of us. Grandma's house for lunch then a trip to the library, hopefully a walk in there somewhere. Then, tonight we are heading to taco night at the legion. I am enjoying the company of my new companion.

We made it!

Lani was amazing at posting about the cross country trip. Take a look-see here: http://mifavies.blogspot.com/2009/08/roadtrip-day-three.html

The trip went really well! I'm so glad that Lani was able to go with me and Gracie was a rockstar! I am just a little sad that it is over.

I'm getting into the groove of things here. The first day wasn't my best but the past two days have been much better. We (reese, two dogs and I) have gone for a walk everyday and I hope to continue that. I took the little one to the doctor's office today - 14lb 14oz and 27 inches long. Well, I am pooped. Time to catch some z's.

I hung out with this drunk girl today...

wait that's better!

Good-bye AZ, for now...

Oh, quiet Arizona Sundays...
I think I will miss you most of all.

Not that today has been quiet, I have written half of a research paper (hopefully I will get motivated and write the other half soon), rented a storage unit and bought traveling gear for Gracie (thank you for the support, Sandra), donated books and magazines to the Friends of the Library, packed books in the living room, and taken a little nap.

Where has the time gone? I will be driving to IN in less than a week and then be missing AZ for 12 weeks. I know the time will fly by between Reese and my two grad school courses.

Wahoo!! 97% on the essay portion of my final exam!!! That wasn't posted when I looked last time.

We had an evening at casa de Wazny last night. Those are my favorite type of evenings. Layla made a surprise appearance. It was very sweet. We were supposed to be watching some movies called The Librarian but who are we kidding. We played with the kids and chatted. Amy made breakfast for dinner - one of my favorites! And Sandra made nanaimo bars - a Canadian delicacy and I am hooked! I will miss those evenings a lot.

I started this blog 8 months ago so that my friends and family in the midwest would have a way to be updated on the happenings in my life. Little did I know that the tables would be turned so soon. I'm afraid that I wont have time to update this before I make the big trip. I don't know what the future will bring for me but I do know that Arizona and all the friends I've made here will always have a special place in my heart.

Grad School

I just returned from SIRLS Boot Camp aka School of Information Resources and Library Science course 504. Seven straight days of class from 8:30am to 6pm then homework each night. I still have my eportfolio to complete and a 4-5 page issues paper to write so it isn't over yet but I am back at home with Gracie and it was amazing to sleep in my own bed last night.

It was wonderful to meet all the other SIRLS students and professors who I will be working with over the next two years. I stayed in the dorms and walked around campus which made me feel like a student - though it was over 100 degrees out so there was much more sweat involved than I remember at IU.

It is still surreal to me that I am a graduate student but I couldn't be more excited about the program and being a wildcat!!

The times they are a-changin'

I have started my intense amount of reading for my first grad school class. Wow, I just got excited to say that. Ha - I am officially a grad student! That is change number one.

Change number two: I am taking some time off from the Museum to head back to Indiana and help take care of Reese. I am very excited about being able to spend this time with her, especially during this time in her life when she is changing so rapidly.

I just read a chapter in Rethinking Information Work (I know sounds boring but I am loving it - dork!) that talked all about change. I know it was talking about professionally I need to be ready for change to be a constant but I couldn't help thinking of it personally right now. It took me moving to Arizona to realize that any decision you make in your life cannot be wrong, because once you have made the decision it has become your life and your life cannot be wrong. That sounds confusing but I feel like I spend a lot of time trying not to make the wrong decisions but there are no wrong decisions. There is your life and maybe it isn't what you planned but it has made you who you are and I like who I have become.

New chapters are beginning and I was super nervous when I got back to Phoenix about everything changing but I think I am ready to be excited now. How can I not be excited about spending time with this little girl?

In love

I am in Indiana right now for an extended trip. I have been spending every waking minute with my niece and I am completely in love with her. We had her baptized on Sunday and I am proud to be both aunt and fairy godmother. She went to the doctor's on Tuesday for her 4 month vaccines (she was a little behind - she is 5 and a half months right now). She is 13.5 lbs, 25 inches long and excelling in every way possible. The doctor was very impressed with her neck control and she is so close to sitting up by herself. She loves to roll over and kick and kick - it looks like she is swimming. Speaking of her grandpa bought her a little pool but of course it is has been cloudy and cold every day since. Hopefully we will have some pool time this weekend. We are taking her to have some professional pictures taken this afternoon. I cant wait! For now here are some pictures from the doctor's visit.

Oh! I have to talk about her singing. She coos all the time and recently she has started to singing in the highest pitch known to man kind. We call it her Mariah Carey. She thinks she is a soprano but i think we should work on her alto skills.
